Helping Your Children Connect With Missionaries

One way to help your children connect with missionaries around the world…

1. Find a large pin board or cork board.

2.  Cover or paint the board.

3.  Attach a large map of the world.

4.  Collect photos or prayer cards of the different missionaries that you support financially or want to pray for.

5.  Mark the missionaries’ locations with bright push pins (shadow box pins or map pins work best).

6.  Attach a string to each push pin (I would recommend official map string, but I just used regular thread).

7.  Put the missionary cards around the border of the map and secure with tacks or more push pins.

8.  Attach the other end of the string to the missionary that matches each location.

9.  Help your children locate where the different missionaries are around the world as you pray for them.

How do you help your children connect with missionaries?

Fabulous as always! Do you have a way of keeping track of the letters they send, especially prayer requests that they publish?

We do…though I’m not great about keeping it current. We have a wall file (I should take a photo) where we keep a folder of “papers to show Dad”, latest magazine subscriptions, and then a folder for the latest missionary letters. It’s in the kitchen. I just leave them in there until we read them at dinner. We also have a magnetic board where we keep the photos of the missionaries whose “teams” we have joined and I used velcro to create removeable tags (wow–this is getting confusing) that we write the prayer requests on…dry erase. But again–not even pretending that I’m great about keeping it up to date.

I’ve also thought it would be fun to mount a mailbox to the wall (as if our house needs more wall-mounted mailboxes :) specifically for the missionaries letters. The tricky piece for me is remembering to print them when we get updates via email.

So awesome! I have been wanting to do this forever – I will get to it one of these days – once I am more mobile :) We keep a binder too, to print out newsletters (if they are emailed to us), and put them in the binder so that we can look through it from time to time.
