Are You Already Skimming…?

Just take a moment to read it.

To really let it sink in.

Are you already skimming?
I understand.
That’s me too.

I’m using the minutes for the most…
While often missing the–
Meaningful.

So stop.
Just…
Pause.

Come out of the shallows.

A deep breath and–
Pause.

Take a Selah moment and let it sink in:
“to pause and value”

What is love?
Love is patient and kind;

Are you sifting-shifting?
Stop.

Stop. And drink. down. every. drop…

Love does not envy or boast;
It is not arrogant or rude.

It does not insist on its own way;
It is not irritable or resentful;

It does not rejoice at wrongdoing,
But rejoices with the truth.

Love bears all things,
Believes all things,

Hopes all things,
Endures all things.

Love never ends…

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three;
But the greatest of these is love.
~ 1 Corinthians 13

“If we’re not completely convinced that His love is ours right now–
fully and unalterably ours– we’ll always hide in the shadows,
focusing on our performance, fearing His wrath…
His love doesn’t fluctuate from day-to-day.
It was settled the moment He set it upon you before the foundation of the world.”
(Elyse Fitzpatrick, Because He Loves Me)

Pause with me for a moment…
And give thanks.

    This morning in my Bible reading time I was focusing on God’s redemptive love to me. When I remember that, it is much easier to show love to those around me. This was another great reminder! Thanks :)

      Yes, yes, yes!!!
      i was just walking with a friend yesterday and we were talking about how HIS love for us, changes and impacts the way we want to live-out our love as parents.

      I was convicted again that I was communicating (without meaning to)…”I love you when you obey” to a certain child. And that IS NOT true–that my love is based on the child’s actions…my love is unconditional. But, I know that in my tone and frustration, that’s basically what I communicate sometimes.

      So good to come back and just remember what real love looks like.
      It’s a passage we hear often (“the wedding passage”) so I’m quick to skim through it….without really stopping to just STOP and be thankful for His love.

    Kara, this is lovely. I have been really searching to know God’s nature and His heart better. Yesterday, I was actually thinking on the passage you quoted here. Love…I thought: God is love. Therefore, all these qualities of love are qualities of God. And I was shocked that I never put hat together before. It dispelled many misconceptions I have about Him:)

      Mandy…I’m reading a book that I think you would love…
      It’s called “Because He Loves Me” by Elyse Fitzpatrick.
      I’ve followed Christ for many years, but it has been so interesting for me to see as I’ve read and really focused on His love for me, that often I live like it isn’t true. I live out misconceptions I didn’t even realize I carried. Anyway–it has been a powerful read for me.
      Love,
      K

    YES. I love this post. I am so hurried and skimming and task-oriented all the time… it is ok to be that way for some things, but I need NEED to stop and just SIT in God’s Word! Thank you for helping me do that!

      Thanks Emily…
      That’s very much me too.
      I literally have to preach to myself– STOP and let this sink in!!!

  • michelle @ this little light

    Oh my gosh, you nailed it. Yes, I DO skim. Trying to get everything (and by everything, I usually mean meaningless tasks!) done in a certain amount of time. Thank you for this lovely reminder to slow down and contemplate. I need it … OFTEN! Happily visiting from The Wellspring!

    • http://thechuppies.com/ Kara @ The Chuppies

      Thanks so much for visiting Michelle :)
      I’m the same way…have been asking Him to really help me slow down to let things sink in. How quickly I skim my was through and scan past even His grace, which should leave me speechless.

      I NEED that “pause”.
